It’s that tenuous time of year in Nashville when Winter and Spring are wrestling for control weatherwise. One day it’s warm enough for a light jacket. The next you’re back to huddling up in a heavy coat. It can be challenging for me to dress for the day’s weather depending on what I will be doing. I can’t wear a lot of layers because if it gets too warm to wear all of them I only have a small backpack on my wheelchair to stow them in. Sometimes the solution is very black and white.
The pants are Larry Levine black and white pinstripe with a built-in belt. This will likely be the last time I wear them because they are too big and have too many convoluted fasteners for my uncoordinated fingers. My black and white Vans are a nod to the classic Saddle shoes I wore as a young adult. The red Urban Expressions bag is this winter’s go to because it doesn’t have zippers or fasteners that snag delicate knitwear.
You’ve seen this while dolman sleeved For Cynthia sweater before, last fall to be specific in Fashion Friday: A Purrfect Outfit. It’s an ideal between seasons piece because you can pair it with another sweater underneath for colder days or a tank like this black studded Mishca for Springlike temps.
Accessories are kept to a minimum. Just my red bracelet and Medic Alert Cuff. But I’m sure you’re not looking at my wrist. As promised in my Passionate About Nashville’s Wild Hare post here is the dessert I’ve been teasing you over. That luscious confection is The Wild Hare’s Flourless Chocolate Torte. It’s my favorite chocolate dessert in all of Nashville – and that’s saying something because I’m quite the chocoholic. I could eat this diet-wrecker everyday and it takes a Herculean effort for me to pass it up.
As I write this it’s 70 degrees. Tomorrow we’re back into the 50′s and 30′s for a few days. I may get to wear this sweater again this week.
Thanks as always to Patti for the Visible Monday linkup.

You are so ready for spring…great outfit, flowy and springlike…and a great smile!! I hope it warms up for you….the chocolate is soooo tempting!
Thanks, Pam! I’m a dark chocolate lover and this torte is not that super-sweet kiddie chocolate kind of dessert. I’m not kidding when I say I could easily eat several pieces on my own!
I love black and white, especially with a pop of color like the bag. Your “wheels” add the other pop of color!! I am crazy about your shoes too. I may have to investigate. Right now I only have little skimmer-type flats or flip-flops for warmer weather flats. That cake looks downright decadent. i would succumb for sure.
Thank you, Jean! I’m going to discuss some footwear options in my next post.
By far, my favorite accessory is the cake!! Oh. My. God.
My brother lives in the Nashville area. Next visit I know where he’s taking me.
I’m right there with you on this crazy weather. I just wrote a post about how I have so many things that I never got to wear this winter because it only just recently got cold.
So you are smart to do the light layers, and black and white are always perfect, especially for the upcoming season. And the red bag is the cherry, no, make that the strawberry on top! Yummy!
Diane, you have no idea how good the torte is! I highly recommend you eat at The Wild Hare during your next visit to Music City. While you’re here drop me a line and maybe we can do some shopping
I would love that! Can we go get the torte AFTER we shop? Something tells me that things might not fit as well if we ate it before we went!
Allow me to clarify about my closet. I took over the master closet awhile back and my husband uses the closet in his office. The closet in my den holds some of my out of season clothes and the rest get packed into bins. The guest room closet has my coats.
As you can see, I don’t REALLY need to go shopping but that’s never stopped me yet!
You got it! Just let me know next time you’re playing in my sandbox, so to speak
Great black-and -white with bold red, Alicia. And please, I need a bite of that cake! thanks for linking up to Vis Monday.
Thank you, Patti. I think I need to talk The Wild hare into mail ordering their torte around the country!
Oh yum! That looks delish!
Such a fickle weather we’re having…..we’re suppose to get rain all day tomorrow. Prob colder, too.
Love you in B&W! And the red bag is perfect to add a pop of color!
It is, Jeannie!
We’re getting the rain as I write this. Thanks for your kind comments!
I love your pretty top. And what a great smile! I’d probably be wearing one just like it if I had that piece of cake waiting for me. haha
Thanks Lisa! That sweater is a great example of a piece that looks odd on the hanger but perfect on the body.
Love the shoes and really like the top too. But LOVE the shoes. And the cake. I obviously love the cake. All hail to the men who love the women who lunch!
Oh, I sent your last post to a friend of mine who has CP and is a writer and editor. He really liked your writing and thought you very funny.
Thank you, Charlotte! I’m honored that you’ve shared my work with your friend. I’d love to read some of his work, too, if you’ll point me in the right direction
The shoes are last season’s Vans and everyone loves them!
Vans? Is that an American brand? (I’m in Canada.) My friend works a lot for disability media. I’ll ask him where you can read his work. I also passed this post on to friends who live in Nashville because I thought they’d like to try the cake!
Vans are an American brand available in the US and through mailorder from Shi and other shoe stores.
I’d love to read your friend’s work! I had no idea you had friends down here. What suburb of Nashville are they in?
You’re doing a post about footwear? You mean flat footwear for those of us who can’t wear heels? The first style frustration with my new (well several years now) disability is the weight gain because I can no longer jog. My second, and it’s a pretty close second, is my inability to wear heels. So any and all flat footwear suggestions are welcome.
Yes, I am! I’m starting it today and I have a lot to say on the subject.
I think I’ll do a post on it too at some point. I have to admit that my fashion imagination is straining to really appreciate flat footwear. I’m thinking I may be able to wear tiny little heels a bit now, as I heal, but I’m not sure. This was my first attempt and it felt great. http://www.sublimemercies.com/2013/02/valentines-day-in-which-charlotte.html?utm_source=BP_recent
Our weather is so unpredictable too. Today 70, Wednesday it’s supposed to be 80 but it’s 30 in the morning. Layers are the only way to dress this time of year.
What a beautiful white sweater you have. I love the elegant simplicity of black and white.
Thank you, Adrienne! I had every intention of participating in your “How I wear my green” linkup but the weather turned so snowy and slushy my spring green looked contrived against my winter gear. I intend to plan ahead for next month
You look so lovely in white – must be your color!

Thank you, Tami!
I’m having trouble controlling my recent chocolate craving, so I guess I’m glad I’m not there to be tempted! It looks goooood, though! I love black and white and that sweater does seem versatile- I love the imagery of winter and spring wrestling for control of the day!
I’m generally a very good girl when it comes to watching what I eat but I simply can’t resist this torte. In fact, I find it difficult to resist most dishes at The Wild Hare! I was going to allude to the fact that in my neck of the woods it’s more than just wresting, it’s mud wrestling, but I thought better – until just now
love the black and white and especially the shoes… Pop of red is perfection!
Thanks, Tracey. I’ll be posting about bags in the near future – shoes in the even nearer future!
looking forward to both!
That’s it….we’re channelling each other! I love your red bag with your look! And really, you have the ultimate accessory….a piece of chocolate cake!
We are, Kristen! That just proves we have exceedingly good taste. Speaking of taste, I’m beginning to think I could’ve worn a bag over my head and gotten great feedback on the torte alone!
Isn’t it wonderful to be able to say that pants are too big? Really a pretty, dramatic outfit … hope we see more of those cute little vans.
Still cold here … the wind and humidity more than anything. Much needed rain for my pasture. Looking forward to lighter, prettier clothes, too.
J.
Thanks, Jan! I do love it, love it, when I can say pants are too big. I know it doesn’t show but I work pretty hard at not gaining weight – despite my occasional indulgence in chocolate torte!
It’s cold here today, too. Jack keeps nudging me to go out and play with him but I’m waiting for the sun to be higher in the sky.
Better the occasional chocolate torte than unrelenting deprivation. Deprivation works for a while, but long term, it’s also guaranteed misery and ultimate failure. What you’re showing us is at least REAL food. About the same caloric damage as a huge shake made of polymers! Seriously, polymers! You might actually get nourishment from the torte!
On the days when we don’t shop for the restaurant in Fort Smith, I eat between 800 and 900 calories of high quality, very low process whole food. Then I can have pretty much what I want when we are in civilization! Not a diet, or a plan for anyone else, but it works for me and our weird food-life in a willy-nilly kind of way.
Weather warming tomorrow … happy Jan!
You look great!

Thanks, Regine!
Flourless means rich…yum! I love neutrals with a pop of red. You can’t beat it! Debbie @ ilovemylemonadelife.com
Flourless does indeed mean rich and, in this case, not sickly sweet. Let the kids have the milk chocolate. I like it dark – which, incidentally, is good for you
